Should I Use AI to Write My Resume?
Your resume is a signal of your ability to communicate a clear, tailored message. When you hand it over to AI, it shows.

Artificial intelligence has crept into every corner of professional life, promising speed, convenience and occasionally even brilliance. But should an executive rely on AI to write their resume?
The answer is a resounding no.
Hiring leaders see hundreds of resumes. AI-generated resumes are glaringly obvious, and they can smell the whiff of AI-driven content from a mile away: generic phrasing, overuse of buzzwords and a lack of nuance.
A resume reflects how well you understand yourself, your career, and the problems you can solve for an organization.
People who rely on AI for this task send a clear signal: they can’t articulate their own value. That’s not a good look for someone vying for a leadership role.
At the executive level, the ability to communicate is non-negotiable. If you can’t write convincingly about your own achievements, why should anyone trust you to communicate vision and strategy to a boardroom, investors or a team?
Articulating Your Value Is Table Stakes
Executives are expected to solve problems, drive strategy and deliver results. These aren't abstract qualities — they're measurable, concrete and often deeply personal to your career journey. Being able to communicate them in a resume is a baseline requirement. It’s not a task to delegate to a machine.
Equally, the process of writing your resume forces you you to clarify what you bring to the table and think critically about your value proposition. This introspection is essential preparation for the discussions you'll have with hiring leaders. Handing this task off to AI is missed opportunity to sharpen your pitch ahead of interview.
AI Isn’t the Answer
The idea of using AI to write a resume might sound appealing — quick, easy and seemingly polished. But shortcuts like this come with a cost. Perception matters, and an AI-generated resume gives off all the wrong signals. It suggests a lack of effort, a lack of authenticity and, most worryingly, a lack of clarity about your own value.
If you want to lead, you need to own your narrative. AI can’t do that for you.
